About this event

Every piece I create starts from a small, quiet ball of clay.  I often feel like something is happening organically  between me and the clay…that what is made, “has” to come out…little beings needing to breathe. I’m intrigued with and fascinated by both what’s on the inside and the outside of things.  Because my “creatures” are imaginary, I like to explore what the endo and exoskeleton might look like. My hope is to leave people in a happy state of pondering, uncertainty and wonderment. – Lulu Fichter I make collages from discarded materials, most often including, but not limited to, paper and thread. Found elements and tiny details inspire me.   If stranded on a desert island I could still construct from detritus, but I would yearn for a pair of scissors, an ex-acto knife, a sewing needle, an awl, a pencil and my silky-smooth elk-bone burnisher.   When foraging for components, I’m equally impressed and curious about the ingenuity and skill required to make a sheet of paper or a weather-resistant wasp nest. – Jane Simpson
